CV joint boot installation

So I have my boot ordered, how hard is it going to be to put on? It's for my '06 AC 400 FIS. It's the outer boot on the left rear axle. Looks pretty easy to get the spindle off, are there any tricks to getting the new boot on? Thanks for the info!

Best place for parts?

I need to get a cv joint for the LR drive axle on my AC 400 FIS. Where is a good place to get this type of part, and what is the difficulty level for installing it? I noticed on a ride last night that the boot was torn (the outer at the wheel). My friend noticed a clicking noise when going slow. You could really feel and hear it when you are barely moving. Of course I'm out of warranty! It looks simple enough to get to, but I''m not sure what's involved in changing the joint. Any ideas? Thanks

RE: Aftermarket add-ons?

Wow - I kept waiting for quotation marks or asterisks noting which publication that information came from, but they never showed up! You guys are pretty serious with your much welcomed information. So, if I understand what you are saying, unless I am really itching to drop some change, be happy with what I have unless I want to compete on some level or just have the biggest bad azz on the block.

Aftermarket add-ons?

Exactly how much more power per $ are we talking about with these bolt ons? I hear people talking about a power commander, though I am not familiar with it. Combined with aftermarket exhaust, and K&N, what kind of power improvement can a guy expect, say from a 400 utility?

RE: Arctic Cat rear diiferential

That is what makes the most sense to me, but it kept throwing me off when some of the dealers were saying it should not be locked. I can see with a solid rear axle, but with IRS, I thought it might be an open rear end. Thanks for the info - Cat Dad

Arctic Cat rear diiferential

After all the information I have recieved, I still can't figure out if my rear diff is supposed to be locked or not full time. I have got opinions from you all, and I have called 6 AC dealers. The dealers are
split 50/50 on whether or not it is supposed to be locked full time. Does anyone have a similar AC that knows? Mine is an 2006 400 FIS. I don't have a whole lot of confidence in the dealers, they are so divided on their opinions. And, none are within 40 miles of my home. Thanks for any info -

RE: 2006 Arctic Cat 400 FIS

Thank you all for the great info. I was on this other lame forum (supposibly for atv's) for a week and never once got a reply to my questions. That's what I couldn't figure out, whether it was supposed to be locked or not, and I didn't want to go to a dealer and let them charge me for something that was not broken. By the way, we use this cat for farm use primarily, but what a great bike! - Thanks again!

RE: 2006 Arctic Cat 400 FIS

My Cat has a locking front diff, and that is not the problem. I've recieved conflicting stories from different dealers about whether or not the rear end should be locked or not. It has fully independent front and rear suspension, not a solid axle. So it makes sense that each wheel would turn freely. But like I said, no one seems to know!

2006 Arctic Cat 400 FIS

My Arctic Cat has a locked rear differential. The only problem is, I don't think it's supposed to be locked. I recently noticed it was harder to turn and bucked on asphalt when turning. I had someone get on it and go in a circle and both wheels were turning the same speed. Is this something that it is supposed to do and I just noticed? Or has something broken in the rear end? This thing performs perfect otherwise. If you have any information, please help! - Thanks
